The weather may have been rainy and made it perfect for Scrabble! This was our biggest Aestival since COVID ended and exceeded last year’s attendance by 2. We welcomed Julie, Caroline, and Finley for their first events – with further welcomes to Jane Taylor (SA) and for Sylvia and Alistair, who travelled from the east of the state to play today.
There were five divisions, played to a round robin format. David, Alistair, Jenny, Bobby, and Annette took the honours in a competitive field that featured three new players!
Thank you to all of you who supported our final event of 2024, the Decathon! It was our first event to use the new word list and it was great to see sightings of OWO, UWU, INT, BAW, and DUR amongst other words. Congratulations to Andrew for playing what was voted the most popular new word, which was VAQUITAS (a type of porpoise).
We had interstate and international presence at our event, which was wonderful to see. We welcomed Sumbul to our event circuit; like Fadlan and Bobby who came to our previous event, she is an international player who is based here for an extended period of time. In addition, Bill played his first in person event today, having been playing our online matches for the last couple of years.
Congratulations to David and all the other prize winners; we ended 2024 with the best attended Scrabble Victoria run event in 5 years and 2025 has so much more to promise!
