Ably directed by Ros Gibbons (who had to double as a player due to a last minute withdrawal) the tournament ran very smoothly. Her partner in crime, John Barker got off to a strong start, breasting the bar three times for three schooners and three wins in his first three games before lunch. Unfortunately for John his winning streak came to an abrupt end, going down by 240 points in the first game after lunch. A few of carloads of Sydneysiders stayed on for the the usual post-mortems and hard luck stories, combined with beautiful meals of lobster and Steak Diane, before making the long trip home, satisfied with their day of good friends, good food and good Scrabble.
