By close of registration (8.45) we still had 30 missing players, and by 9am there were still 8 unaccounted for i.e. 8 not there for the scheduled starting time. The last two, an ACT male who is making a name for himself in masters, and the other an ex-National Champion who recently visited the Philippines with myself for sightseeing purposes, wandered in at 9.25, just in time to be included in the days play (it took me 15 minutes before that to juggle every one around on the basis of their non-arrival). To rub salt into my wounds they both beat me during the course of the day. Oh well, there must be justice somewhere.
An interesting observation was that all 3 Divisional winners won all their seven games. These were Esther Perrins in a rare appearance at a club tournament, and showing she is on track for a good performance at the upcoming world Championships in Washington, Ros Gibbons from the Wollongong Club, who enjoys socializing after tournaments, and why not, and Nonie English from the strong Balmain Club.
