Despite not being within cooee of a train line, let alone a shop, the tournament attracted 86 players, with a healthy compliment of novices. One lady, Pat Traub, popped over from Canada to play Recreational, while another novice, Leonora Walker came along after reading an ad in the Sydney Morning Herald and walked off with the novices award.
Graeme Lock Lee showed how keen he was by flying in from Alice Springs after collecting a cool $400 for 4 days Scrabble 'work' at Lasseters. Graeme will be starting work on an ASPA (NSW) Home Page once he settles into his new job, commencing tomorrow in the Sydney CBD.
The ratings appended to this report are not correct for Graeme, because of his participation in last weeks event. Anyone who played Graeme will also see a minor adjustment to their ratings because of Graemes new, elevated rating not being available for todays event.
My president's award (to be a feature of these reports) goes to Robyn Finlayson from Woy Woy club. Robyn turned up at this event after failing to register - in contrast to the Turramurra tournament where she registered but failed to turn up. Life wasn't meant to be easy.
