Matte Dunn, who had travelled up from Melbourne to see his team the Brisbane Bears get thrashed by the Sydney Swans the night before, got off to the best start with 5 straight wins, including one to the eventual winner, Jammy Bastard, who only lost one other game during the course of the event (to Jan Serisier)
Jammy Bastard was ruthless in his blank drawing and jammy plays, following up his 27 out of 40 blanks in the Winter Masters, and a surfeit of blanks in his recent matchplay victory over John Holgate, with 28 out of 40 blanks in this event. Against me he jammily slotted down CAIRNED as a double-double, creating three adjacent end hooks. He did however miss out on a blank in one of our games.
As the BBQ sausages were slightly underdone, and extra game was slotted in before lunch, making 10 for the mornings play. A lazy 10 games after lunch saw the day finished by 7.30 pm, with the hostess providing a lovely lasagna dinner for those that lingered on.
Thanks to Richard for his organization of the event, and Jean Noonan for her behind the scenes work, and of course the hostess for letting a dedicated a nd determined bunch of Scrabblers take over her home. Roll on Speedy 2005.
Note: Chris May me gave unreserved permission to use Edward’s new nickname for him in this report!
