We wish to thank the 90 players who participated in our "Kick-Off 2004" tmt. and the 27 students who took part in our second Junior Tourney at our Club last Sunday 18 January. In particularly we sincerely thank Liz Jackman who stood in for Fred Reynolds (Tmt Dir) at the last minute and Bob Jackman who worked so hard to ensure that the show goes on. Bob's hard work is reflected unfortunately in his rating points losses. We thank also Richard Birch, Rex Shakespeare and Ann Fiddler whose work did not go unnoticed.
Because we had two tournaments running simultaneously in adjoining halls but one raffle - some players may not have heard the drawn numbers. We were aware at the time that this could happen, and our Sue Whelan wrote the numbers down immediately. Two prizes were not claimed immediately. However subsequent checks later at the Juniors' Hall revealed that those two prizes were actually won by a student's parent who invested $10.00.
There were four prizes for Kick-Off that we could not declare at the time - the "Highest Rating Gain" cash prizes for each division.
These were won by:
A division - Maureen Hilder, 86 points
B Division - Nonie English - 104 points
C Division - Krystyna Batten from our own Club - 79pts
D Division - Sherie Brown - 47 points.
Can some one please provide us with the addresses of Maureen, Nonie and Sherie so that we can mail the prize to them ? Thank you.
As soon as possible we shall be furnishing you with our report for both tourneys. Once again we thank our guests for making it such a lovely day for so many players, and on behalf of our Club we thank you all for supporting our both events. Those who were there will agree that we all got an insight on a wonderful future for Scrabble NSW from what we saw happening at the Junior Tmt.
We invite all those who took photos to e-mail us your photos as we wish to make a nice record of them on our website. This in the long run will assist the growth of Junior Scrabble in our state. Very soon we anticipate approximately three Junior players to graduate into adult tournaments - when they are ready. This means that these kids have played in past junior events like: School Scrabble Friendly Games (2000), Hills Scrabble Challenge/s of 2001, 2002 and 2003 and the Inaugural NSW Junior Scrabble Championships last August, I am very confident that Junior Scrabble will be as popular in Australia in years to come as it is in the United States and Thailand. All it needs is YOUR support.
