Our new venue this year, Five Dock Community RSL, in Great North Road, was much enjoyed and praised by many of our participants, and we have already booked the joint for the first Sunday in March 2005 & mark it in your diaries!
Many of all the usual suspects and quite a few faces arrived & sooner or later & there was a flat tyre near Bundanoon that held up a couple of Canberrans. And some Sydneyites there were who had not read the notices, neither in the handouts nor on the net, and who took a short cut via the previous venue & however, battle commenced not so very much later than according to plan, and, in her usual, predictable style, Wilma ran the tournament so efficiently and smoothly that we were finished early & in short, a highly successful tournament, especially for some&
In Division D, for instance, Tony Searles gained 93 points!
He had won six games, with a margin of 219,and came second in his division.
However, Yvonne Edwards had won 6 games, with a margin of 522, and not only did she come first, but she also played the High Game &523 & the second highest score of the day. An achievement at which not to be sneezed&..&.
Shelley Cartwright from Queensland took out third place with 5 games and a margin of 205.
Colleen Walker played the High Word scoring 102 points for BUDGIES.
In Division C, Greg Pinchbeck with five games and a margin of 238 came third.
Fay Van Oyen also won five games, her margin was 303, and she came second. She had scored 101 with her High Word, DAUGHTER.
With a very creditable six games and a margin of 193, Alan Gauci came first, gaining 71 points in the process.
The High Game, 485, went to Jan Tomlin.
In Division B, with five games and a margin of 272, having won the High Game (497), Ian Close came third.
With five games and a margin of 290, Betty Coleman came second, and with six games and a margin of 483, Ram Mohe came first. Rex Shakespeare's High Word, SCRIMPS, scored 107&. Moreover, it was The High Word of the Tournament!
As for Division A & with five games and a margin of 515, Bob Jackman came third.
Having played the High Game of the Tournament, 530, Joanne Craig won five games with a margin of 626 and came second.
Our Queenslander in Canberra & our Canberran from Queensland? Edward Okulicz won six games with a margin of 455, and played VESICLE for a mere 105&. Not quite as much as SCRIMPS&. Nevertheless& Is it any wonder he came first?
Hearty congratulations to all the place-getters: see you, same place, same time, next year!
