Matte Dunn's late arrival and inclusion saw 58 players faced the starter in 3 divisions (Masters/Advanced, Inter and Rec) includng 3 Queenslanders ( Anne Drew, Olga Visser and Dylan Sharma) in Masters as well as 8 first starters in Rec.
Matte had told Bob Jackman to put him in but Bob had forgotten. This is not a jibe at Bob but at players who don't tell the appropriate people (eg the ORGANISERS of a tournament) of their intention to play.
Bob Jackman repelled the Northern invasion by topping the pops with a perfect day from Anne, Olga, Dylan and Rod Talbot all on 5 wins.
Prizes were awarded to players rated under 1300 who played in the Masters section with Raya Wilkinson the winner from Margaret Berliner and Penny Wells.
The Intermediate section went to Colleen Howie (6 wins) from Ram Mohe on differential, Donna MacDonald taking 3rd.
Rec was taken out by Arthur Schofield, after some 3 or 4 years out of tournament action, over debutante Joan Booth and Therese Newman grabbing third from Colleen Hood.
The venue, the Matarra Hotel, Charlestown proved comfortable and quiet with all the games getting through in good time due to MC George Kharmis and computer whiz kid extraordinaire James Graham, who mastered the draw program in about 3 minutes flat. Thanks are also extended to the runners on the day for a job well done.
Congratulations also to all the Newcastle members who organised the eats and supplies for the day especially Rosalie Tobin, Ann Henderson and Siva.
