JOIN A STATE ASSOCIATION

If you are a Scrabble player in Australia, the best way to get involved in the Scrabble community is to try it out first by attending a club or tournament. Each state maintains a list of clubs and at a club you can meet other players, learn the game, and get a feel for the community. Games are usually more relaxed and social at clubs, and you can play as many or as few games as you like.

If you feel up to testing your skills at a more competitive level, you might go to a tournament where you play a set number of games in the day (usually four to seven games) according to pairings determined by an algorithm. Your first tournament may be free. Often there are prizes for the top players, and you can earn a rating, which can then be an incentive for you to improve in later events.
