International: Trans-Tasman contenders
The event
A team of 12 Australians are to be selected to play against New Zealand in November 2006.Qualifying criteria (brief) - Full criteria can be viewed here.
The qualifying period, July 2005 to June 2006 inclusive is broken into three trimesters. The qualifying statistic for this event is a weighted average of three peaks attained in these trimesters, calculated as Q = (P1 + P2 + 2 x P3)/4, and players must play 60 games over the twelve-month qualifying period.
A peak must be attained in the trimester, so if a player is idle for a trimester, their peak is zero for that trimester.
The top player in a state or territory will qualify over other contenders, provided he or she is ranked 24th or higher.

Qualifying criteria
- The qualifying period runs from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006.
- Players must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
- Players must have played at least 150 games in the Australian Rating System before their performance will be measured.
- Players must play a minimum of 60 rated games in the qualifying period.
- Players meeting the participation criteria outlined in (b),(c)
and (d) at June 30, 2006 will be ranked using a weighted average of
three separate peak ratings attained (not carried over) during set time
periods:
Period 1: July 1, 2005 to October 31, 2005
Period 2: November 1, 2005 to February 28, 2006
Period 3. March 1, 2006 to June 30, 2006 - The last of these peaks will be weighted doubly. Thus Peak Rating = (Peak 1 + Peak 2 + Peak 3 x 2) / 4, The peak rating in a period is the highest end-of-tournament rating attained during that period.
- If a tournament straddles two trimesters, it is counted in the trimester in which it starts, not ends.
- A player finishing in the top 24 qualifying players using the three-peak system will automatically qualify if they are the best-performing player in their state or territory.
- Players qualifying as top-of-state must be resident in that State or territory at June 30,2006 and have played at least 10 games in that State or territory over the qualifying period.
- Further players will be selected in the order they appear on the three-peak ranking list to select an Australian team of twelve players altogether.
- Should any player decline an invitation, their replacement will be the highest-ranked player , irrespective of state, using using the three-peaks measure not already in the team.
- The status of potential qualifiers will be regularly displayed on the CASPA Web site during the qualifying period.
- In the event of any unforeseen issue, the decision of CASPA is final.
